Fantasy Football ’18 Week 5 Waiver Wire

The waiver wire offers an opportunity at every position. Lurking in the murky waters of fantasy free agents are the gems that can transform a roster with a lowly record to a fantasy champion. Below is a list of seven players you may want to jump on after their performances last week. Thank me later and don’t forget to follow STF on Twitter at @Snack_TimeFS for personal advice and more articles like this one!

Week 5 Waiver Wire Targets
# Player Position Team Percent Owned
1 Nyheim Hines RB Colts 15%
2 Keke Coutee WR Texans 2%
3 Nick Chubb RB Browns 19%
4 Taylor Gabriel WR Bears 6%
5 Andy Dalton QB Bengals 62%
6 Vance McDonald TE Steelers 43%
7 T.J. Yeldon RB Jaguars 50%

Nyheim Hines: The Colts previously had a pretty murky backfield situation. However, with Marlon Mack handicapped with a hamstring injury for the last three weeks, Hines has taken over and established himself as the lead back for Indianapolis. He’s a reliable pass catcher, which caters towards PPR formats, and has scored three touchdowns over the last three weeks. He’s my top waiver add of the week for these reasons.

Keke Coutee: Coutee, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by Houston, made his season debut on Sunday for the Texans after being sidelined for the first three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury. He showed up against the Colts and quickly became a hot target for Deshaun Watson. Coutee was targeted 15(!) times for 11 catches and 109 receiving yards, good for 21 PPR points. With Will Fuller dealing with a hamstring injury of his own, Coutee is the clear no. 2 option behind DeAndre Hopkins in the Texans’ offense and needs to be added immediately.

Taylor Gabriel: Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky loves to spread the ball around and that’s why Gabriel is second in targets on the team behind Allen Robinson. Gabriel went off on Sunday against a buttery Tampa Bay defense, catching all of his targets for a 7/104/2 line and 30.4 PPR points. One of fantasy’s best kept secrets, Gabriel is sitting at only 6% owned in Yahoo! leagues. That should change quickly after his weekend performance.
